I have never in my life had such a hard time resetting to factory settings or doing a clean install on a computer! I'm working on my friend's Sony Vaio laptop comptuer. I can't stand the vaio software! His computer was about to crash when he brought it to me. Low and behold, he had downloaded ****** which in return brought the std's of the technology world with it. I removed 2,912 threats and viruses from the computer. I then removed programs and files that weren't needed. That sped up the computer tremendously. I then did disk clean up and disk defragmenter. At that point, the performance of the computer went from 5% to 75%. It was still a little slow starting up programs, would get stuck on windows updates, and would get the "not responding" error message. After having windows 10, I can honestly say I don't miss the windows 7. I have spent the last 30 hours straight working on this thing. I finally got mad and contacted microsoft support and was in a chat conversation with 3 different agents over 4 hours. We all finally agreed that a clean install of the windows 7 OS would be the best bet. I wanted to do that from the start. I knew that's what it needed. It is possible to do a reset without the disk but it's a lot of hard work. Apparently I took the long way around when it came to downloading the ISO. I went through a bittorrent client. I didn't bootleg. I actually used the ISO microsoft was going to get for me. I had already downloaded it. I will say, for a beginner walking into that process, It was very complicated and hard to understand and I wouldn't recommend it unless you are very tech savy. The agent helped me with a download tool to create an ISO to USB boot. By the time we disconnected, I felt somewhat confident but not really. lol. Well, when it came time to boot the usb ISO, I followed her instructions and still couldn't get it. I then learned of the "Assist" Vaio rescue menu. That is where I found the ****** reset to factory settings. All the downloading of the ISO and the time researching how to do it...was absolutely USELESS! No matter what I tried or how many sets of instructions I followed to do the clean install, this computer would just not let me do it. So here I set now watching this ****** thing reset to factory settings. I'm hoping this does the trick. If not, it's back to square one and I quit for a while. I think the Vaio systems are absolutely the worst thing that could have ever been put on a computer! It made things so much more complicated than it needed to be! I'm tired, my back and sides are killing me from being in my desk chair for 30 hours, and my head is pounding from all the research and staring I've been doing at computer screens. My suggestion, go with a cheap computer. They work just as well! You don't need all the fancy bells and whistles, you just need an up to date operating system! If you need help, I can definitely give it to you when it comes to resetting back to factory settings.
